Itinerary

Day 1: Rongai Gate to Simba Camp

Start your trek at Rongai Gate, passing through farmland and pine forest. The trek is a gentle ascent with beautiful views of the Amboseli plains and Kilimanjaro. Reach Simba Camp, your first overnight stop.

  • Altitude: Rongai Gate (1,950m) to Simba Camp (2,600m)

Trek through the moorland zone, enjoying expansive views. Pass the Second Cave en route to your next campsite.

  • Altitude: Simba Camp (2,600m) to Second Cave (3,450m)

Ascend through the alpine desert zone, taking in stunning vistas. The Kibo Massif comes into view as you approach Kikelewa Cave.

  • Altitude: Second Cave (3,450m) to Kikelewa Cave (3,600m)

Continue through the alpine desert, with Mawenzi Peak dominating the skyline. Arrive at Mawenzi Tarn for a picturesque campsite.

  • Altitude: Kikelewa Cave (3,600m) to Mawenzi Tarn (4,330m)

Ascend to Kibo Hut, the base for your summit attempt. The landscape becomes more lunar as you approach the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo.

  • Altitude: Mawenzi Tarn (4,330m) to Kibo Hut (4,700m)

Start your summit attempt in the early hours, reaching Gillman’s Point at sunrise. Continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Descend to Horombo Hut for the night.

  • Altitude: Kibo Hut (4,700m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) and descent to Horombo Hut (3,720m)
