Day 1: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Commence your trek at Lemosho Gate, the starting point of the route. After completing registration and park formalities, enter the lush rainforests. Trek alongside colossal trees and exotic flora. Reach Mti Mkubwa Camp, located at an elevation of approximately 2,650 meters (8,694 feet), for your first overnight stay on the mountain.

The trail leads you through the rainforest to emerge in the heath and moorland zone. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Shira Plateau as you ascend. Arrive at Shira 1 Camp, situated at an elevation of about 3,505 meters (11,500 feet), where you’ll spend the night.

Today’s trek takes you further across the expansive Shira Plateau. Traverse the rocky terrain and relish the changing landscapes. Reach Shira 2 Camp, located at an elevation of approximately 3,840 meters (12,600 feet), for your overnight stay.

Descend from Shira Plateau to the Barranco Valley. Enjoy unique senecio vegetation along the way. Arrive at Barranco Camp, situated at an elevation of about 3,960 meters (13,000 feet), and set up camp for the night.

Begin the day with a challenging ascent of the Barranco Wall, providing a thrilling scramble. Continue through the Karanga Valley, with incredible vistas of the surrounding landscapes. Reach Karanga Camp, situated at approximately 4,035 meters (13,255 feet), for a well-deserved rest.

Ascend to Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt. The trail crosses the alpine desert, marked by volcanic rocks and rugged terrain. Rest and prepare for the summit push at Barafu Camp, situated at an elevation of about 4,600 meters (15,100 feet).

Commence the summit attempt in the early hours, navigating steep and challenging sections. Reach Stella Point at 5,685 meters (18,650 feet) and continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Kilimanjaro at 5,895 meters (19,340 feet). Witness the breathtaking sunrise and panoramic views. Descend to Mweka Camp, located at approximately 3,100 meters (10,170 feet), for your overnight stay.

Descend through the lush rainforest, retracing your steps. Reach Mweka Gate, collect your summit certificate, and celebrate your remarkable achievement. Conclude your Kilimanjaro adventure with a transfer back to Moshi.
